Saturday Cloud Question…Soaring Into 80s

***Watch WISN 12 News at 5, 6, & 10 p.m. for the updated weekend forecast!***

Thank you for stopping by the Weather Watch 12 blog!  Plenty of gloomy and damp weather to go around on Friday.  The good news is a chance is headed our way for the weekend.  But the question is how quickly will the sunshine return?

Before we answer that question and look ahead to a big warm-up, let’s check the rainfall totals from Friday.  If you have a total to share, please post it to the comments section of the blog.

  • Milwaukee – Mitchell  0.39″
  • Sheboygan  0.35″
  • Madison  0.31″
  • Kenosha  0.25″
  • West Bend  0.24″
  • Fond du Lac  0.16″

While most of the showers concluded by Friday afternoon, the clouds and fog(near Lake Michigan) continue to hang around.  Lake shore counties are under a Dense Fog Advisory until 10 a.m. Saturday.

The visible satellite below from around 1:30 p.m. Friday not only shows the clouds in our area, but look back to western Minnesota and Iowa, clouds there too!

The clouds well to the west do concern me for the Saturday forecast in southeast Wisconsin.  The low pressure area that is to our south, will move slowly to the east.  While Saturday will not be cloudy the entire day, we can expect clouds in the morning with a sun/cloud mix in the afternoon.

To show this graphically, let’s check out the 12Z NAM forecast for 1 p.m. Saturday.  The green color from Milwaukee north represent ‘low’ clouds.  These should break up from the morning into the afternoon.  Outside of cloud cover at times, Saturday looks like a dry day.

Highs on Saturday should be around 70 near the lake, with warmer temperatures inland.  The big warm-up will arrive on Sunday with highs in most areas in the 80s!  A true taste of summer will hang around Sunday into next week.  We’ll watch Sunday, as a warm front will lift north, and with daytime heating and plenty of moisture around, a few thunderstorms may develop.  The rain chance on Sunday is only 20%, so don’t cancel your outdoor plans!

Make sure to watch WISN 12 News at 5, 6, & 10 p.m. for the very latest on the weekend forecast!

Have a great day!

Jeremy Nelson
