Cool & Rainy Tuesday…Building Heat Looms…UPDATED

***Watch WISN 12 News for Milwaukee’s most accurate forecast***

***Rain totals updated at 8:00 pm***

Thank you for stopping by the Weather Watch 12 blog!  The weather conditons we experienced on Tuesday should be pictured under the word dreary in the dictionary.  Rain, clouds, and cool temperatures made the day feel more like April.

The rain and a wind off Lake Michigan, kept temperatures in the 50s all day.  Keep in mind the average high for June 8 is 74 degrees!  Below is the surface map at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.  Notice the 50s over Milwaukee, and really a somewhat cool day across the western Great Lakes and upper Midwest.  Just click on the image to enlarge.

Despite a steady light rain for most of Tuesday, rain totals stayed below a half inch in most locations.  Here is a list of rain totals thru 8 p.m.

  • Greenfield  0.51″
  • West Bend  0.50″
  • Racine  0.44″
  • Caledonia  0.40″
  • Milwaukee  0.39″
  • Kenosha  0.37″
  • Fond du Lac  0.35″
  • Sheboygan  0.33″
  • Cedar Grove  0.28″

If your city is not listed and you would like it to be, just post your rain total to the comments section of the blog.  Or drop off your total on our Facebook page: WeatherWatch 12

To help fill in the blanks when it comes to rain totals, another tool we use is the NEXRAD rainfall estimates.  Below shows the rainfall estimates thru about 8:45 p.m.

The rain showers will end from west to east across the area overnight.  A nice day awaits for Wednesday with a west wind and sunshine, highs should top out in the upper 70s.  It will be breezy, with west winds gusty to over 25 mph at times.

The hot and humid airmass which we have been talking about since last week is still poised to arrive by Friday afternoon.  By then, highs should soar into the 80s, with highs either side of 90 expected on Saturday.  Below is the 12Z NAM forecast for Saturday at 1 p.m.  These are 850 mb temperatures, or the temperature 1500 meters above the ground.  If these temperatures can be translated to the surface through mixing, then we should top out around 90 to start the weekend!

Have a great day!

  3. Have you peeked at next week? Seems a familiar ridge returns. I noted something in the GFS around the 24th as well.
