June Gloom

***Watch WISN 12 News for the latest weather information!***

Thank you for stopping by the Weather Watch 12 blog.  After a hot and humid end to Friday, the weekend started cloudy, damp, and cool.  The June gloom that we experienced today, may hang around for a while.

To look on the positive side, the gloom is better than rain, and any rain chance for Saturday evening and also on Sunday looks low.

Let’s start off by looking at the cool conditions around southeast Wisconsin on Saturday.  The surface map below is from shortly after 2 p.m.  A few things to note…the colored in blue, red and pink circles mean skies are cloudy in those locations.  In Milwaukee, skies were cloudy and the temperature was 62 degrees.  The wind was out of the northeast.

With a nearly stationary front sitting to the south of the Wisconsin/Illinois border, winds will remain mainly off the lake for the forseable future.  That means temperatures near the lake will be stuck in the 60s, and skies will be mostly cloudy to cloudy.

Part of southwest and south central Wisconsin did warm into the 70s on Saturday, but that was with the aid of a little sunshine.

Moving forward.  For Sunday more clouds are in the forecast and again the wind will blow off Lake Michigan.  To get an idea of what type of clouds will be around for Sunday, we can look at what basically comes down to a cloud forecast.  This forecast is from the 12Z NAM and is valid for 1 p.m. Sunday.

The dark green colors that are labeled water, and low clouds, while the blue color of ice and snow represent high clouds.  As you can see, skies will likely be mostly cloudy at this time.

While I’m not expecting rain on Sunday morning or afternoon, we are watching closely a chance for showers on Monday.  This would keep the clouds and cooler temps around into the early part of the week.  Below is a forecast valid for 7 a.m. Monday.

Temperatures to close the weekend on Sunday look to be in the 60s near the lake, with some 70s possible inland.  Monday, if clouds and showers are around could be a day where many areas stay in the 60s.  Warmer 80s will return to the region by later in the week.

If you have any thoughts or questions about the weather, please post them to the comments section of the blog!

Have a great weekend!
